Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent.
In italiano, lo chiamiamo anche noi Mercoledì delle Ceneri. Per i cristiani, è un giorno di penitenza e digiuno, con cui inizia un lungo periodo di preparazione alla Pasqua chiamato Quaresima, in inglese Lent.
Nella chiesa inglese, in questo giorno ci si reca in chiesa dove il sacerdote traccia con la cenere una croce sulla fronte, per ricordare l'inizio di questo periodo.
